SBI Foundation has partnered with Devi Sansthan to provide foundational literacy skills to 10,000 illiterate adults (15-60 years old) and out-of-school children (6-14 years) in Hindi under the Global Dreamshaala Web-Based Literacy Project initiative in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The Literacy Now app enables teachers and volunteers to conduct interactive assessments and deliver interactive content including videos and games to teach FLN in an enjoyable and effective manner. The app will also enable partner organizations like governments, schools and NGOs to use large-scale data for decision-making. DEVI Sansthan has received a grant from State Bank of India Foundation to develop the app and interactive content.
In the Literacy Now app you can register yourself and your learners immediately by downloading the link: learn.literacynow.app on a mobile.
The App and the Toolkit provides all that you need to teach them. Global Dream is the fastest way to make a child or adult capable of foundational skills of literacy and numeracy.
Teaching sessions are for 15 minutes daily. Daily teaching is more powerful than longer sessions once or twice a week. Do not teach letters like ‘a se anar’. Instead, teach the Global Dream way – from pictures – to sounds – to words. Don’t put ‘se’ in the middle. Just as shown. Be extremely patient. Do not tell the answers yourself.
You can ask your family members or others to help you with this project. With their help your goal is to make at least one child (like a child-out-of-school) or adult learner (like you maid) literate. The learners should not know how to read or write at present.
The first goal is to make your learners capable of READING within this summer break. Then you can teach them how to write. You can teach numeracy from the beginning, or after they have learned to read. The entire project is not complete until your learner passes the verification process on the app, and can demonstrate they can read, write and do basic arithmetic.
The first Festival of Literacy will be held at your campus immediately after the Summer Break. Prepare a portfolio of your journey with your learner(s) till date. A second Festival of Literacy will be held later in the year to celebrate successful completion of your mission.
You will learn many 21st Century Skills as the New Education Policy 2020 requires: to take a project from its beginning to the end, to overcome the difficulties along the way, to take initiative and involve others, to lead change, to set goals, to manage time, and to not give up. We also learn much more when we teach others.
Share pictures and videos of your work on the class group throughout the Summer Break and call your class teachers in case you run into any difficulties.
