Literacy Now Campaign

Literacy Now Campaign

Literacy Now came out of developing e-content for literacy during the COVID period. It started with a bang in May 2022 with the signing up of 30,000 students of Grades 5 to 12 of City Montessori School, Lucknow, the World’s Largest School, and some others. We are aiming to have another 500 schools join the campaign in 2022.

Background

Literacy Now began as Each One Teach One Summer Campaign in 2014 with the participation of 67,000 students of 150 plus schools of Lucknow, Kanpur and Barabanki. The students of Grades 5 to 12 and some even younger students and their families participated in the campaign. The results were so very encouraging that we replicated the Global Dream Toolkits 15 Indian languages. Nearly 1,500 schools and their 500,000 students have participated in the summer campaign between 2014 and 2019.

How CMS Aliganj is implementing it?

Literacy Now Campaign is a program aiming at foundational literacy and numeracy skills. The project is running smoothly at CMS Aliganj Campus II (Junior Campus) under the guidance of Principal Ms. Samvida Adhikari since 2019. The learners are from the nearby slum area of Indranagari. After COVID-19, the project started with the CMS Mission “VISION-2025” and Motto- “Leave No Child Behind”. The students started teaching their learners enthusiastically following the COVID protocols and are imparting education keeping in mind the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The tutors and learners are actively participating in different activities focusing on SDG-3 (Good health and Well-being), SDG-5 (Gender Equality) and SDG-10 (Reduced inequalities) other than teaching and learning. This way both are benefited for their holistic development.
